The Nursery

Nursery School provides a happy and gentle introduction to our youngest pupils and we are justifiably proud of our ‘Excellent’ grade in all areas in our most recent ISI report -June 2018

Our self-contained, purpose designed Nursery provides the children with an environment which is secure, bright, happy and stimulating. The Nursery children are led by a Norland trained, qualified teacher supported by qualified practitioners.

The Nursery and Reception classes have been shortlisted for the prestigious ISA Award for Excellence and Innovation in Early Years 2022.

The indoor space is separated into activity areas, whilst the attached, garden area provides an ideal space for exploration outside, this is in addition to use of our large playground, lawned area, playing field, wildlife area and beautiful village location!

Children learn through exciting and stimulating themes that incorporate the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.

Early Years Curriculum

This curriculum encompasses the prime areas of development: personal, social and emotional development; communication and language and physical development.

The specific areas of development grow out of the prime areas.   They include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society; literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.  The key principles which underpin the curriculum is the belief that each child is unique, positive relationships are crucial and that the provision is enabling.

A large proportion of children in the nursery move into the main school.  Strong links between the nursery and reception class ensure that the transition is calm and happy. Children in the Nursery have access to the main School facilities, they familiarise themselves with the whole school environment, and are included in whole school events.

The Nursery children benefit from specialist teachers for music and French.  The Nursery class hosts performances such as a Nativity play at Christmas, in the Summer term a Class Performance and at Harvest time they perform in the church.   Parents are invited to watch at all these events.

Flexible Places

Children can join the nursery the term before their third birthday; we offer both flexible full time and part time places. Parents can build up sessions over the time their child is in nursery.

We understand that busy parents need flexible care.

Families can choose a term time only nursery place or add additional care with the Holiday Club which is open all year round.  We close for one week at Christmas and Bank Holidays.

The Nursery day starts between 8 and 8.30am.  It finishes at 3.30pm but with After School Club, we offer flexible care on a regular or adhoc basis from 3.30 to 6pm each day.   This does not need to be booked in advance. Please see our Wrap around care page.
