Our History

Springmead School and Nursery was founded in 2002 by Madeleine and Stephen Taylor, along with Madeleine's sister, Jacqueline Beardsley.  Their fundamental aim was to provide a nurturing and inspiring learning environment for children aged 3 to 11, as well as giving a high priority to respect, patience, self-discipline, tolerance and a joy for learning.  Their motto was, and still is, Carpe Diem; children learn to believe in themselves and have fun at school whilst building academic success.  The introduction of many exciting co-curricular activities over the past few years complements the academic timetable.  Why?  For some very important educational reasons: we want children to have as many opportunities as possible to develop a sense of self, a sense of their own unique and brilliant abilities and to realise their possibilities and potential.  As a result, when you visit you will probably find us learning science in our wildlife area, practising maths in the playing fields, learning literacy in the garden or acting out important historical moments!

Now part of the Forfar Education group, Springmead has benefited from significant investment in facilities and resources for the benefit of the school community.  We have ambitious plans to further invest in our school to offer families the very best in educational excellence.

What’s more, our Nursery recently extended its offering to 50 weeks a year to support the demands of busy working families.  Our Nursery provides children as young as 3 with the opportunity to join the Springmead family.  With its spacious classrooms and stimulating curriculum, our Nursery provides a happy and gentle introduction to school life.
