Citizenship Lunchtimes

As we settle back into school life this term, we’re excited to launch a brand‑new initiative that puts pupil voice, responsibility, and community spirit right at the heart of the school day: Citizenship Lunchtime. Once every half term, Citizenship Lunchtime will provide extended, purposeful time for our important pupil leadership teams: the School Council, Eco Committee, Reading Ambassadors, and Digital Leaders, to come together, share ideas and make decisions to deepen their role in shaping the life of the school. It’s a chance for children to see that their voices matter and that their contributions make a genuine difference.
Not every child will be on a committee each half term, but everyone will take part in at least two groups across the year. When children are not meeting in committees, they’ll take part in different activities. This half term they will head out on a walk around Beckington, for a community litter‑pick. This simple activity helps pupils take care of their local environment while building awareness of their role within the wider community. It is also a chance to enjoy being outdoors and take pride in improving the village.
Once the meeting and activities have concluded, the whole school will come together for a shared community lunch. This will provide a lovely moment of connection, a celebration of what they’ve achieved and to recognise the positive impact of their efforts.
Citizenship Lunchtime is a meaningful way of helping children understand how communities function, how responsibilities are shared, and how even small actions can make a big difference. These experiences align closely with National Curriculum expectations for citizenship, giving pupils real-life opportunities to take responsibility, collaborate, and contribute to the world around them.
