Focus on the Coronation

This week as the excitement builds towards the Coronation, children are sharing their family plans of celebrations in assemblies and classes.  Some will be watching television, some are travelling to London to watch the event unfold on big screens in London parks, some children are looking forward to barbecues.  All will remember in years to come, how they celebrated and were part of this occasion.   At school, we have been planning our own events to build memories for our whole community.  Today the children have made crowns and will parade in Beckington after recording their Coronation songs on the stage in the garden,  ready to be part of the Forfar schools’ celebration song event.  This will be released on You Tube over the weekend.    The children have been learning songs, which they will share with parents at our Right Royal Singing Breakfast on Tuesday.  All families are welcome to join us at this special start of the school day.  As a gift to the children on this historic occasion, we will be presenting them with a commemorative medal.  Children are welcome to wear the medal at the event on Tuesday morning.  Our hope is, that this keepsake will be treasured and evoke some very special memories in years to come.

In my own family, as in others too, older family members have their own memories of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation day and I know that my children will hear these stories over the weekend.  These important markers in our lives are significant, they are the essence of family narratives, only passed on to the next generation, if we encourage, ask questions and are interested.  Take time this weekend to dig deeper and hear these precious, unique family stories.
