Focus on Reception Class

We have had a very busy first week back after half term…we definitely all hit the ground running! We settled back in quickly to class, continuing our celebrations theme. We started learning about Diwali, the festival of light and the children have started making clay diva lamps. They loved using clay and had to find some big muscles to work the clay into the shape of the diva lamps. We loved reading the story of Little Glow, a beautiful story of light, love and togetherness by Karl Newson. We spotted all the different celebrations throughout the story, including bonfire night where we were inspired with some firework art.

We also had a wonderful time exploring poetry as part of our creative writing theme. We looked at lots of different poems and nursery rhymes and enjoyed listening the rhythms and language. We then focused on the poem The Rainbow by Christina Rossetti. Children discussed the language in the poem, looked at rhythms of the words and the images it created. We created beautiful rainbow painting and immersed ourselves into all things rainbows!
