Mendip Junior Cross Country League – Tuesday 4th October – Wells Rugby Club

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

For the first Mendip Junior Cross Country League of the season, 13 children from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented Springmead in all 4 races.

Well done to Lydia Collingwood, Irene Denison-Pender, Gabriella Doel, Charlie Shakespeare and Sam Johnston who all competed for the first time.  A fantastic first run from Sam saw him finish 2nd in his first race for Springmead School at the Mendip League.

A brilliant effort was put in by all, all running hard to the finish line!

Results can be found on www.mendipjuniorathletics.org.uk and on the school playground notice board.

Year 3 trip to Roman Baths

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

All the badgers had an enjoyable day at the Roman Baths on Tuesday.  They enjoyed completing a range of activities including making their own mosaics, dressing as a Roman and looking at artefacts about how the Romans bathed.

They liked having a tour of the baths and using an audio guide to find out more information.  They also completed a quiz, whilst walking around and they particularly enjoyed making a wish to the goddess Minerva.  Fun was had by all!

Ducklings and Hedgehogs Learn About Teeth

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

The Ducklings and Hedgehogs enjoyed learning all about our teeth on Thursday morning when dentist Jude Starkey (Sophie and William’s mum) came in to talk to us.

We learned all about healthy food and how to brush our teeth properly.  The children had an opportunity to try on a dentist’s smock and handle real dentist’s instruments.

Year 5 Scavenger Hunt

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

On Tuesday morning the Owls welcomed the change in weather by completing an autumn scavenger hunt.  Challenged to find a selection of items and a mystery interesting item as a tiebreaker the class set off working in small groups.

The changing autumn environment provided a fantastic array of items to scavenge.  With several teams completing the list of items it was left to Mrs Hotson to choose the winning team by judging which group had the most interesting item.

The team of Angus Walsby, Campbell Goff and Lydia Collingwood were declared the winners for finding and interestingly shaped leaf that had been created by nibbling insects!
