Medals Galore!
Last Friday, members of the school swimming squad took part in an inter-school gala against Minster and St Louis’ schools. With many children belonging to local swimming clubs, the standard was particularly high and the races fiercely competed. In fact, the overall positions weren’t decided until the final race, with Springmead ‘A’ being declared the winners.

Well done to all our swimmers, many of whom who had not swum in this prestigious gala before.

Go Explore!

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Year 3
On Monday the Badgers went on a Go Explore session. They followed the maps they created in their last session and checked to make sure the places they passed on the walk were marked on their map. The Badgers enjoyed exploring the Wildlife area and going on a longer walk, as well as stopping to sketch some horses they saw on their travels. Fun was had by all!

Foundation Stage
On a beautiful sunny day this week, the Foundation stage went off on their Go Explore session to the Wildlife area and had a marvellous morning! The children had a great time going on a snail hunt and looking at the habitat the snails were living in. They also collected lots of snails and made a snail farm for the classroom so that they could observe their movements. The children have been so motivated and interested in them and have been observing them daily, drawing pictures and even naming them!

Our littlest explorers went and explored the new willow den and played the ‘duplication’ game (where the children had to find 5 or more natural objects that matched the teachers objects.) This allowed the children to observe their natural environment, focus their attention and improve their memory and visual awareness. What fantastic fun!

Year 5 Science Fair
The Owls had a great time at Prior Park College this week. They investigated the mysteries of strange happenings by participating in a series of scientific experiments; were treated to a show full of flashes, flames, explosions and weird chemical reactions; enjoyed a picnic in the summer sunshine; and were treated to a musical extravaganza performed by the school’s Year 7 and 8 children.

Year 6 – Safe Bikes Training Course

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011

Over the past few weeks the year 6 children have been bringing their bikes into school on a Thursday to take part in a ROSPA cycling course.

Mr Munckton, Miss Heald and Mrs Hotson have been working with the class and helping them to learn about Safe Bikes, Riding Position, Stopping and Starting, Cycle control and Communication. As part of the course the children have spent time on theory work in the classroom and practical work on their bikes in the playground.

This course is a fantastic opportunity for the children to become safer cyclists and learn skills that will remain with them throughout life.
