Yr 3 & 4 Tag Rugby v Beckington

On Monday afternoon Beckington and Springmead Tag Rugby teams got together for a warm-up session before Wednesday afternoon’s tournament at Frome Rugby Club. After a short skills session the two teams lined up against each other. Both teams worked hard in defence and made the opposition attacks work even harder to break them down.

The tough defence and accurate tagging kept the scores close but it was Springmead who just edged ahead late in the first half and managed to retain the lead through the second half. The game was great preparation for the tournament on Wednesday where both teams would meet again.

Yr 3 & 4 Tag Rugby Tournament

On Wednesday afternoon Campbell Goff, Luca Morgan, Charlie Herd, Alex Mori, Martha Atkinson, Elena Sidman, Charlie Shakespeare and Luke Nickless represented Springmead at the Frome Rugby Clubs annual Tag Rugby tournament. Up against five other teams in Pool A the team played very well and built on the success from earlier in the week.

All the players worked particularly hard in defence once again and took their chances in attack to score some impressive well-worked tries. Martha Atkinson scored a particularly good individual try and Elena Sidman was on the end of a great team move to score. Despite playing well and only losing one game Springmead were unable to progress to the final and finished in second place in the group.

Big congratulations to everyone who took part and a thank you to all who turned up to watch.

Year 6 Residential trip to Longridge

The Eagles returned exhausted but full of their exploits canoeing, kayaking, rafting, bell boating and dragon boating, as well as climbing, a ‘leap of faith’, a ride on a giant swing and exhausting themselves in water orbs. Phew – no wonder they were tired!

Year 4

The Squirrels enjoyed an exciting 3-day residential stay at Kilve Court this week. We too part in loads of exciting and adventurous activities including; grass sledging, climbing wall, a coastal visit to a Jurassic beach where we explored rock pools and looked for fossils, team building activities, a low ropes course and a fantasy trail where we encountered giant squirrels and angry monkeys!!!  Good fun was had by all and we returned home on Wednesday afternoon happily exhausted!

Year 5, Langford Lakes

On Wednesday the Owls enjoyed a lovely day at Langford Lakes Nature Reserve.

With this terms theme being Water the children were able to find out about both the natural and manmade features of the River Wylye in the morning.  Then in the afternoon a spot of pond dipping allowed the children to see the abundance of inhabitants in the river.

Year 1 and 2

This morning we bustled forth on a rather blustery day to the delights of the wildlife area.  We spent some time listening to all the sounds and the quiet as well as taking in the delicious scents of fresh flowers, trees and the damp earth.

Our mission was to find out all about plants, where they live, what they look like and, indeed, we had an in-depth discussion about what exactly is a plant. With clipboards at the ready we made line drawings of some delightful plants with some of us adding colour by using some oil pastels.

To add to the excitement Elinor found a rather large moth, which seemed to take a liking to her and took some persuading to leave the comfort of a sleeve and move to more practical Cow Parsley.  We all had a chance to explore and play until we returned to school with frizzy-haired dampness from the odd sprinkling of rain.

Nursery and Reception Go Explore

On Wednesday morning our younger pupils enjoyed a sunny walk down to the wildlife area, our activity was ‘wild art’. The children thoroughly enjoyed mixing mud and water from the stream to make a natural paint to use on their pictures!

Year 6 Bushcraft First Aid

In this week’s session the Eagles investigated how to cope in an emergency using both equipment in a first aid kit and improvising using materials found in the outdoor environment.

Year 6

As we go to print the Eagles are busy packing for their trip to Longridge for their residential trip. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures on their return.
