A visit from children’s author, Kate Maryon

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

The children in years 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a stimulating afternoon with local author Kate Maryon.

She told the children how and why she first started writing age 3, read poems she had written when she was 7 and shared with them some of her latest novels.

She also showed them the various stages books go through when being published.

Above all she told them never to give up on their dreams, because although she is now a successful author, this has only happened more recently, a dream come true!

Cross Country club

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

The lunchtime Cross Country Club at Springmead is under way this term and the level of fitness is good across the group. The club is very popular with 29 children taking part.

In Cross Country club we time the children on the first week and then go out and about around Beckington, through the village, around the Beckington Loop and the children’s favourite – up and down hills! We then time them at the end of the term and we notice a huge improvement in times and their fitness. The children also take part in the Mendip and Trowbridge Cross Country Leagues competing against lots of other schools in the area, with fantastic results!

Pantomime, Wednesday 19th January

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

The Panto the school went to this year was Aladdin.  When we arrived we were all ready excited, we took our seats and waited eagerly.   When it started Abanaza (the villain who was called Aba Banana by the others) came on and we were booing and hissing at him.  It was really funny and we all laughed when Abanaza tried to get his theme tune going, it kept playing Eastenders.

The costumes were amazing with the colour and detail they must have put lots of effort into them, especially Aladdin’s costume with all the beads and diamonds.  The props were terrific; there was even a torch with real fire on the top.  The jokes were really funny mostly coming from Wishy Washy (he’s a boy who works in a laundry) one of his funniest jokes was “Do you know what happens if you break your promise?”  “You let Russia host the World Cup!”

At the end of the Panto we all wanted it to start again it was so good.
